The Polytechnic, Iresi was conceived in 2005 by the Iresi community, through Iresi Progressive Union (IPU) under the leadership of the then IPU president Rev. Prof. Samuel Ayodele. Before then, the community had created a powerful think-tank called the Iresi Zenith club, made up of notable, capable and patriotic men and women who can be described as achievers in their private lives. It was to this body that Prof Ayodele submitted a proposal for the creation of a College of Agriculture, a Monotechnic. The option was based on the fact that Iresi has for ages been an agrarian community noted for the cultivation of several food and cash crops. However, it soon became evident that the preference of most youths was not for course in Agriculture. Thus, in 2007 National Board for Technical Education was approached to modify the original application to Institution which is a full-fledged Polytechnic.
